Norman Water Shortage

Norman Water Shortage

Every time the question of water shortage raises its ugly head in Norman, as it has again this week, I wonder.

I wonder why the Norman city council has not legalized and promoted grey/black water systems, and why plumbers are not marketing and installing them.  Everything else is marketed in the plumbing business from new bath replacements to whole bath room makeovers.

While we're on the subject, why are there no publicized investigations into the legality and practicability of anaerobic waste treatment systems for single family dwellings?

Programs of this kind would easily cut the Norman water consumption and demand in half, reduce and possibly eliminate the need to replace aging sewers, and slash the load on existing waste treatment plants.  They would also go a long way toward making Norman a sustainable city.

Since the costs for such improvements would be born by private homeowners; and since the costs to the public in water and sewer costs would be reduced: it would seem reasonable that generous tax incentives should be offered to distribute real costs more fairly.
